Mr. Handyman, Huntsville, Al. - Home repairs
I hired Mr. Handyman in Huntsville, Al. to repair a hole in the ceiling, replace a door and a window. They charged me around $2500 to repair the ceiling and paint it. That has been over four months ago and was just here today to repair their painting work for the third time. The door I had replaced and painted, they charged me more than quoted because the owner, Jeff Stillwell, said it required more than two coats of paint on it. He told me at the time he presented me the final invoice, never said anything to me while doing the work that there would be an extra charge if it took more than two coats to paint the door. And the painter had "splashed" paint on the weather stripping of the new door, got paint on the new hinges and doorknob. He quoted me a price of $2,500 to replace door and paint it, replace window and adjust a French door I have. After saying nothing and when presenting me the final invoice he wanted $4,200. Yes, $4.200. When I got done laughing because I thought he was kidding with me, he told me he was serious and tried verifying the added costs by saying, well, this door took more than two coats to paint; the other doors he measured and he ordered were not the right size so he had to trim them and charged me to travel to his shop, to do the trimming, etc. what I want to stress and what I've read in other reviews is they will give you an estimate that will seem reasonable, but that is not even close to what your final invoice will be. Oh, and they charge for any and everything; screws, nails, showing up, putting their tools up. And here's the kicker - the work is not of good quality. I paid a premium price for mediocre work. I feel taken advantage of, tricked, ripped off. I have had to call them back numerous times to fix their work and any work they've done has not given me that, wow, that looks great opinion. Do not use them. Read their customers reviews. All I can do now is try to warn others.
