Direct One, Advice on Handling Fraud

I was a victim of Direct One's fraudulent charge on my visa for $61.02. My bank (Wells Fargo) was great in correcting the problem & they started a fraud investigation. For those of you who have been a victim of this company (or any other company) contact your local District Attorney's Office -- Consumer Fraud Division. Each state/county has one. They have FREE assistance and report forms to fill out. They will investigate the company and the more complaints they receive about a particular company, the better for their investigation.

In California, they have forms to complete if you have been a victim of ANY kind of consumer fraud. It really is a good thing to do, even if your bank or credit card company refunds your money. If no one files reports, the company (like Direct One) will keep ripping people off.

Direct One charged my credit card and when I called their business in Santa Ana, they told me they had no record of my name and were unable to help me. They even accused me of lying by saying I "probably let a friend" use my credit card! When I told them I was going to file a consumer fraud complaint, the girl on the phone became very abusive and started screaming at me, and then hung up the phone! I filed a complaint the very next day & have since been refunded my money. I did have to cancel my credit cards & have new ones issued ... which was a pain.

My case is currently being investigated. I encourage all of you to do file your reports, especially if you did not get your money back.
