Sony customer service

I purchased a Sony 52Z5100 on 11/22/09 for $1600 to be given to my family as a Christmas present. I did not buy the extended warranty. The present was given 12/25/09. On 12/23/10 the picture started acting up. I called Sony. They said it was out of warranty. Warranty is from date of purchase. They did offer to pay for an authorized tech to evaluate TV. He said is was a LCD computer panel. The cost of repair would be $3449.71 for the $1600.00 TV. I called Sony again. They offered me a 60" that sells for $2200 for $1700 and a 46" that sells for $999 for $700. I told them the 60" will not fit in my cabinet and I had a 46". It was too small for the room. I also had a major problem spending more money on a Sony product. I asked if they would give me the part and I would pay parts a labor which was $600. They refused. I have older Sony products that still work. The new ones are obviosuly crap. The repairman also said Sony's parts are outrageously priced comparte to other brands
