Swindled out of cash based on a technicality

This is a Complaint / Review about

I made a booking at the Oberoi Hotel in Dubai via the website and paid for it in full with booking reference number R1757722657. I later had to change the dates and called the hotel to request permission to cancel the booking with the 3rd party They agreed to not charging me the full amount and I made another booking directly with the Oberoi and again I paid for the new reservation. I then cancelled the booking with Nevertheless they went ahead and charged me for the full amount of $1138.28. They had a clause that stated the following
"Each room in this reservation is subject to the hotel's cancellation policy which is: This reservation is non-refundable. There is no refund for no-shows or early checkouts"

The above clause is not the hotels policy and there is no explicit statement for cancellation, but only no shows and early checkout. If the Oberoi Hotel had decided not to honor my initial booking then I would have accepted the total loss as per the hotel cancellation policy. However I have written confirmation from the Oberoi Reservation Manager that they did not impose any penalties for the cancellation as I had rebooked with them. In essence did not incur any losses but pocked my money. They have refused to refund me my money I paid for the original booking. This is indeed an unethical business practice and needs to be stopped by the authorities. I kindly request that action be taken against this company and protect other travelers money being taken away from them without a proper justification or from a legal perspective.

I have previously booked with and there was one instance where I had to cancel my booking and they were obliging on condition that the hotel agreed to the cancellation. Unfortunately the hotel refused to refund the money and I had accepted this decision. In this instance the Oberoi Hotel agreed to accept my cancellation without any penalties and that does not gives any rights to withhold my payment. I please request that you take up this matter with this company's management.
