Boilers Issues - SEARS Doesn't Stand Behind Their Products

This is a Complaint / Review about SEARS.


Similar to many of you, I have had a horrible time dealing with SEARS, their customer service and all their other BS. I had a boiler installed in 1997 when I first moved into our new home since the one in place broke down within a few months. We did this since we were going to put it on the SEARS credit card. This unit was a Dunkirk that was suppose to have a 12-year warranty.

Well wouldn't you know it, in 2003 the unit gave out. The inside core cracked right in half. My oil company came and was amazed that the core just cracked in half, that should be the last thing to go specially since the unit was under warranty. I started to call the repair center, they sent somebody out and determined that the unit needed replacement. SEARS calls me back a few days after having no heat to tell me that it was going to cost me $4000 dollars for labor to install a new unit. The original unit cost $6000, ridiculous! I finally got to some manager at one of the 20 departments they have you call and I didn't get anywhere until I got frustrated and yelled at the top of the world. They came in a couple of days later and put in a new unit free of charge.

That was March of 2003, now it is February 2007 and the new unit is busted again! The same core unit has rotted out. SEARS has given me the same $4000 BS for labor and this time they said that I would have to pursue a law-suit if I wanted to get my boiler without forking over the $4000 ahead of time. Their reasoning is that the manufacturer will only release the new unit to SEARS and they must charge them the labor cost up front. For some weird and unexplainable reason, they don't have anything on their records that show the 2003 installation. Either way, I am going with my local oil service company and having them install a new unit for $5000 with labor and a warranty of labor and parts for 10 years.

SEARS is a disgustingly wretched company that sells bad products that they don't install themselves and don't stand behind. They have so much red tape that they think they are covering their behinds. I really hope that people are becoming aware of how horrible a company they are and no longer purchase anything from them, unless they want poor service and products that will break down constantly. They have screwed me for the last time!
