Irregular Charge for Upgraded Car Rental

This is a Complaint / Review about Alamo Car Rental.


I booked and paid in advance an amount of $222,14 for an economy class car for period 28 Aug to 3 Sept 2013. An economy class car was not available upon arrival. I was told the car would be upgraded as a result. Normally rental agency responsibility is to upgrade and the customer is not charged. I was told to pick one of three cars outside the Alamo office not realizing their offering was three car classes larger. As a result upon returning the car I was billed an extra $230.41 above what I had already paid. I was in a haste in both picking up the car and returning it and did not realize the full impact of what had occurred until I returned home to face the MasterCard charges. I maintain that it is illogical for someone to reserve an economy class and then after being given an upgrade due to an error on Alamo's part expect a charge that more than doubles the original booking agreement. There is something very irregular in handling the customer this way. I have emailed Erika Ponzar of the St. Louis Contact Center asking for a refund of the double charge but she does not reply.
